SpongeBob SquarePants♥

Spongebob-squarepants.pngSpongeBob SquarePants is a main fictional character in the animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants. He is voiced by Tom Kenny and first appeared on television in the series' pilot episode "Help Wanted" on May 1, 1999. SpongeBob was created and designed by cartoonist Stephen Hillenburg shortly after the cancellation of Rocko's Modern Life in 1996. Hillenburg intended to create a series about an over-optimistic sponge that annoys other characters. Hillenburg compared the concept to Laurel and Hardy and Pee-wee Herman. As he drew the character, he decided that a "squeaky-clean square" (like a kitchen sponge) fits the concept. His name is derived from "Bob the Sponge", the host of Hillenburg's comic strip The Intertidal Zone that he originally drew in 1989 while studying at the California Institute of Arts. SpongeBob is a naïve and goofy sea sponge who works as a fry cook in the fictional underwater town of Bikini Bottom.
SpongeBob has achieved popularity with both children and adults, though he has been involved in public controversy.
Role: SpongeBob is a sea sponge, but he resembles a kitchen sponge. He has large blue eyes, many holes appearing all around his body and a mouth with prominent front buck teeth. He typically wears a white shirt with a red tie and brown square trousers, hence his family name"SquarePants". SpongeBob is a fry cook at the Krusty Krab restaurant, at which he has won employee of the month many times (374 as mentioned in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie). He attends Mrs. Puff's Boating School, analogous to a driving school, but cannot pass the boating test until "Gone". SpongeBob lives with his pet snail Gary in a large "pineapple-house" on 124 Conch Street in fictional Bikini Bottom, which is located beneath the real tropical isle of Bikini Atoll. His neighbors are Squidward, who is a squid and SpongeBob's co-worker at the Krusty Krab, and Patrick, a starfish who is SpongeBob's best friend. SpongeBob is an optimistic and energetic character, but also very naive. His hobbies include jelly-fishing (similar to bird watching andbutterfly catching) and blowing bubbles with Patrick. He is unaware of how Squidward is annoyed by him.

Patrick Star is the deuteragonist of the popular Nickelodeon animated comedy SpongeBob SquarePants, created by creator Stephen Hillenburg and voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. His most significant character trait is his stupidity and lack of intelligence, which makes him a negative influence over his best friend, SpongeBob SquarePants. Patrick has been critically acclaimed. Plush toys of the character have also received popularity, especially with children.
Role: Patrick has no steady occupation and spends most of his time sleeping or watching television under his house, or playing with his best friend, SpongeBob SquarePants. He does give advice to SpongeBob, although it's not usually practical and often gets them both into trouble. For example, in the episode "Sailor mouth", when Patrick and Spongebob find something that says, "Mr. Krabs is a ..." on the back of a dumpster, Patrick told Spongebob that the word censored by a dolphin sound, meant to be fancy. When he tries to find work, it is shown that he has little practical skill and common sense; for example in Big Pink Loser, he struggles with simple tasks such as sweeping or opening a jar. Although he has an extreme "skill" for doing "nothing" as shown in Stanley S. Squarepants and Big Pink Loser, in the latter he wins a trophy for "doing absolutely nothing longer than anyone else". In the EpisodePatrick SmartPants, Patrick becomes extremely smart after a freak accident involving "brain coral", although SpongeBob dislikes this. Despite his innocence, he has also been a criminal many times in the series, like in the episodes Life of Crime and SpongeBob Meets the Strangler among others. In one advertisement for the show, he was even called "The Pink Menace". Patrick doesn't usually intend to get SpongeBob and himself in trouble, but he sometimes does . For example, in the episode Sailor Mouth, Patrick and SpongeBob read graffiti on a dumpster, before learning the writing included "bad words."

File:Squidward.pngSquidward Quincy Tentacles is a fictional character on the television cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants. He is voiced by Rodger Bumpass. The character is seen in most episodes of the show, as well as in movies, video games, and other media based on the series. Additionally, he has been featured in countless toys, games, dolls, and other popular merchandise items.
Role: Squidward is generally considered grumpy and narcissistic. He dislikes many things, including his consistently annoying neighbors SpongeBob and Patrick and his job at the Krusty Krab. However, Squidward enjoys abstract art, playing his clarinet, modern dance, relaxing, public radio, and just about anything else that he considers "fancy". In Truth or Square, it was revealed that Squidward was a happy and laid back person with a secret garden, but it changes when a pineapple falls over him and his garden, and SpongeBob bought the "house". The years of irritation with SpongeBob have turned Squidward in the cynical and grumpy character that he is now.
Squidward was introduced in the series premiere "Help Wanted" (season one, 1999) as the cashier of the Krusty Krab restaurant; he has held this position for the entire series, and serves as the coworker of SpongeBob, who is the establishment's fry cook. His home is a stone tiki head designed to look like the Moai found on Easter Island. The "eyes" of the tiki head consist of the house's only windows on the second floor. He has sought more prestigious and lucrative careers in the arts but has largely failed, as his archrival, a similarly designed but much more successful octopus named "Squilliam Fancyson," regularly notes whenever he appears.

Sandy Cheeks is the third tritagonist of the series SpongeBob SquarePants and is voiced by Carolyn Lawrence. She is a squirrel native toTexas, and is often teased because she is a land animal. She is friends with Patrick and SpongeBob. Sandy is, despite being one of the strongest characters in the show, relatively small. She is often seen standing on two legs like a human. Sandy has a long neck and a large head. Being a squirrel, she is covered entirely with fur. The fur is mostly brown, but there is a patch of light tan fur on her torso. In the episode "Survival of the Idiots," she has a patch of dark tan fur on her breasts. Later in the episode, all her fur was torn off. Possibly because of this, she wears a fur pelt in "Someone's in the Kitchen With Sandy". In that episode, her fur was growing back. She has real fur in subsequent episodes. As a land animal, she must wear a suit and a special helmet to breathe and live underwater. It is sometimes called a "spacesuit". Under the space suit and when she is out of the water, she almost always wears a purple and green bikini swimsuit and a short skirt. She wore a bra and panties under her fur pelt in "Someone's in the Kitchen With Sandy." Sandy has a house made of a plastic resistant to water pressure, similar to an Igloo in shape and referred to as the "Treedome." Within it, there is an ecosystem of plants and trees, creating the normal habitat for a land squirrel. In the episodes Texas and Survival of The Idiots, it is revealed that she can pull a switch that seals the dome in metal to keep people out when she prefers to be alone.
Role: Sandy is Spongebob & Patrick's friend. She has strong knowledge of karate so also is Spongebob's karate partner and is also a scientist who was hired by her chimpanzee beneficiaries.
Despite claims by the show's creators that SpongeBob is "somewhat asexual", several annuals state that SpongeBob holds romantic feelings for Sandy, which is very true and it has been shown on Spongebob in obvious ways like Spongebob brings Sandy flowers quite a few times, and Spongebob compilments Sandy quite a lot and its shown on the episode "Ripped Pants" Spongebob got jealous when Larry the Lobster tried to take Sandy away to hangout with her. and in this same episode Spongebob sings a song dedicated to Sandy from his heart. On November 6, 2009, a one-hour special entitled "Truth or Square" aired to commemorate the series' tenth anniversary, playing this relationship off as a hoax, in which she and SpongeBob were in a play that included a wedding.
In the video game spinoff SpongeBob SquarePants: Employee of the Month, Spongebob has a large pinup image of Sandy in her bikini in his personal locker at the Krusty Krab kitchen. He sighs romantically when the player/user clicks on the image.

Eugene H. Krabs is a fictional character on the television cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants. He is voiced by Clancy Brown. Mr. Krabs is the owner and founder of the Krusty Krab restaurant. His rival, Sheldon Plankton, has a struggling restaurant called the Chum Bucket located across the street from The Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs is seen in most episodes of the show, as well as in movies, video games, and other media based on the series. Additionally, he has been featured on countless toys, games, dolls, and other popular merchandise items.
Role: Mr. Krabs lives in a rusty anchor with his 16-year old daughter Pearl. Pearl is constantly embarrassed by her dad and his cheap antics, leading them to show some distance with each other. Mr. Krabs is extremely rich, but is extremely cheap. In fact, he considers money to be living beings, and in more recent episodes, he berates other persons when they lose money. In the Episode "Grandpappy the Pirate", he revealed to his grandfather that he was not a pirate, causing his grandfather great disappointment and anger until he found out about Mr. Krabs cheap and high prices for the food in the Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs has also been seen with a pet worm named Mr. Doodles. Mr. Doodles has been seen in only a few episodes, but is usually seen walking with Mr. Krabs.

Sheldon J. Plankton (born November 30, 1942) is a fictional character on the American television cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants, voiced by Mr. Lawrence. He has a strong character, is very small, and has two antennae and one eye. Plankton, as his name suggests, is aplankton. The character is also in video games and other media based on the series. Additionally, he has been featured on countless toys, games, dolls, and other popular merchandise items.Plankton is Eugene Krabs's arch rival and the main antagonist of the series, though the two were once best friends, as revealed in "Krabs vs. Plankton" and "Friend or Foe?". He operates a struggling restaurant called the Chum Bucket across the street from the Krusty Krab. His primary goal in the series is to steal the Krabby Patty recipe and drive Mr. Krabs out of business. SpongeBob has also had a few temporary friendships with Plankton, such as in "F.U.N.", when Plankton learns what fun is.[1]. Plankton has also been revealed to an immense fear of whales.

SpongeBob has also had a few temporary friendships with Plankton, such as in "F.U.N.", when Plankton learns what fun is. Plankton has also been revealed to an immense fear of whales.
Plankton has a computer wife named Karen, who is actually a "W.I.F.E." (Wired Integrated Female Electroencephalograph) Karen apparently has a mind of her own, to the point of making fun of her husband. She usually gives him ideas which he often censors out and takes them as his.

Gary is an anthropomorphic sea snail created and designed by animator Stephen Hillenburg and voiced by Tom Kenny (who also provides the voice of SpongeBob and other miscellaneous characters). He lives as SpongeBob's 'pet' snail, but SpongeBob is often seen treating him more like a son, and Gary is often shown to have superior intelligence, possibly being the smartest one in Bikini Bottom. He acts as a loyal mascot, being able to do things such as cook for and prepare SpongeBob for his occupation and often solves problems that he cannot. It is discovered that he enjoys eating human food, despite not always responding to this. Gary was the first character to appear in the series.
The character received critical acclaim, being involved in other media such as plush toys and achieving popularity from both children and adults.
Role: Gary is a sea snail with a prominent shell and red eyes, much like Squidward (their next door neighbor), who sometimes leaves a trail ofslime. He, along with his owner SpongeBob SquarePants, live in a "pineapple home" in the fictional Bikini Bottom, an underwater town located beneath the real tropical isle of Bikini Atoll.[dubious ] Since snails in the series are analogous to cats, Gary vocalizes like a feline (although other characters are able to communicate with him). Like SpongeBob, Squidward is often annoyed by Gary, who interrupts him in many ways such as leaving slime in his relaxation.
In one episode, he becomes attracted to Patrick (only supposedly) and Spongebob thought he had abandoned him, but the truth was Gary wanted the cookie that had been in Patrick's pocket for days . It is also unknown whether or not Gary has a profession, but his most significant specialty is watching television, and has a slight liking for human food. Gary is also very energetic and kind-hearted, even where are times he has undergone a transformation.
In the PC version of the Spongebob video game Battle for Bikini Bottom, it is said in a trivia game that Spongebob found Gary on his doorstep, though oddly, this has never been shown or even mentioned in any episode.

Recurring characters

  • Mrs. Puff (Mary Jo Catlett) - A puffer with blonde hair, who is the owner and teacher of a boating school (analogous to driving school, as the "boats" are underwater equivalents to cars). She dreads instructing SpongeBob due to his reckless driving.
  • Mermaid Man (Old: Ernest Borgnine, Young: Adam West) and Barnacle Boy (Old: Tim Conway, Young: Burt Ward)[11] are two elderly and partially senile superheroes who live in a retirement home, whom SpongeBob and Patrick watch on television. Mermaid Man is the older of the two and is the leader, while Barnacle Boy is his sidekick. According to their book, as seen in the episode "Ditchin'," they are implied to be brothers (and apparently the same age).
  • Pearl Krabs (Lori Alan) is Mr. Krabs' sixteen-year-old (as of the episode "Whale of a Birthday") sperm whale daughter. The series has yet to explain their disparity in species. Pearl is frequently embarrassed by her father's cheap attitude, and often forces him to try and change his habits.
  • Larry the Lobster (Doug Lawrence) is a lobster lifeguard of the Goo Lagoon. Larry is a bodybuilder and workout fanatic. Despite his large and muscular physique, he is sometimes shown to be somewhat of a coward.
  • The Flying Dutchman (Brian Doyle-Murray) is a pirate ghost named after a ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman. He lives underwater in a giant ship, and collects souls. He doesn't accept any kind of disrespect. He is also shown to have a number of supernatural powers in the series. In the episode "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" it is said that the reason the Flying Dutchman haunts the seven seas is because he was never buried when he died (his body was used as a window display). However, in the episode "Curse of Bikini Bottom" he mentions that he in fact was buried.
  • Karen (Jill Talley) is Plankton's computer wife that often expresses human emotions. Karen usually helps Plankton in his schemes to steal the Krabby Patty formula or cause trouble in general. Arguing often in the series, Karen's schemes are either ignored or reiterated by Plankton to take credit for them.
  • The French Narrator (Tom Kenny) speaks at the start of some episodes and during intertitles in American English with a French accent. He is shown in the series as a scuba diverwith a TV camera. On the November 16, 2004 episode of the NPR program Fresh Air with Terry Gross, Kenny admitted that Jacques Cousteau was the inspiration for the French narrator, as series creator Stephen Hillenburg considered him an idol.
  • Patchy the Pirate (Tom Kenny) is a live-action character who is a pirate and the president of the SpongeBob fan club.
  • Harold SquarePants (Tom Kenny) and Mrs. Claire SquarePants (Sirena Irwin) are SpongeBob's parents, who more resemble sea sponges rather than SpongeBob's shape as akitchen sponge.
  • Squilliam Fancyson (Dee Bradley Baker) is Squidward Tentacles's wealthy arch-rival who has been able to succeed in everything Squidward has only dreamed of doing.
  • Betsy Krabs (Paul Tibbitt;[12][13][14] Sirena Irwin) is Mr. Krabs' overbearing mother.
  • Man Ray (John Rhys-Davies & Guy Siner/Bob Joles) and the Dirty Bubble (Charles Nelson Reilly/Tom Kenny) are villains against Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. Man Ray has a humanoid body with a mask and helmet, while the Dirty Bubble is portrayed as a literal giant bubble with a face. Charles Nelson Reilly was the primary voice actor for the Dirty Bubble, but Tom Kenny has portrayed the character in one episode after Reilly's death in 2007.
  • Perch Perkins (Dee Bradley Baker) is a news reporter, seen in the movie as well as several episodes such as "Once Bitten" and "The Pink Purloiner".
  • Dr. Gill Gilliam (Rodger Bumpass) is Bikini Bottom's doctor, often seen in the hospital.
  • Nancy Suzy Fish (Sirena Irwin in 1999-2000, Grey DeLisle in 2000-present) is a citizen of bikini bottom. She called SpongeBob a Talking Cheese in the episode "Band Geeks" and Squidward a nitwit in the episode "Good Ol' What's His Name". She is shown to be a some what of a rude character.
  • Elaine (Dee Bradley Baker) is a bass fish which, unlike the other citizens of Bikini Bottom, looks like a realistic fish, resembling a paper cut-out of a bass fish. Elaine barely moves, in fact only his mouth is usually moving. Elaine shows up in various episodes, including "No Free Rides". He also shows up in the beginning intro of the show.

Minor characters

  • Redbeard Krabs (Dennis Quaid) - Mr. Krabs's grandfather, a pirate who wears similar clothes to those worn by Mr. Krabs. He has so far only appeared in the episode "Grandpappy the Pirate".
  • Bubble Bass (Dee Bradley Baker) - An obese bass who is SpongeBob's arch-nemesis. He made his first appearance in "Pickles", and also appears in F.U.N. when SpongeBob and Plankton are at the movie theatre.
  • Stanley S. SquarePants (Christopher Guest) - SpongeBob's cousin who has a similar appearance to SpongeBob, but is much taller. SpongeBob and Stanley try to help each other whenever possible. Stanley is accident-prone and causes destruction wherever he goes.[15]
  • Flatts (Thomas F. Wilson) - A mean flounder who went to community college with Patrick and bullies SpongeBob at Mrs. Puff's boating school in the episode "The Bully", for whom Mrs. Puff (Mary Jo Catlett) appreciates for that decision. He was first seen in "Sandy's Rocket" and "Texas".
  • Grandma SquarePants (Marion Ross) and Grandpa SquarePants (Tom Kenny) - SpongeBob's grandparents. Grandpa SquarePants is mentioned in past tense and Grandma SquarePants lives alone and sometimes treats SpongeBob like he is still a little sponge. Grandma Squarepants made her first appearance in the episode Grandma Kisses. She didn't make her next appearance until the 2007 episode Blackjack. She made another appearance in the episode "The Abrasive Side" (November 27, 2010).
  • Old Man Jenkins (Doug Lawrence and Tom Kenny) - An elderly fish who used to live in the Rusty Krab care home before it became the Krusty Krab restaurant, and currently resides at Shady Shoals Retirement along with Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. His appearance changes through some episodes. He is voiced by Doug Lawrence and Tom Kenny in separate episodes.
  • Painty the Pirate (Patrick Pinney) - A painting of a pirate head that sings the SpongeBob SquarePants theme. Painty also makes minor appearances in several episodes.
  • Miss Prisselpuss - Miss Prisselpuss is a elderly lady who hated fun and delicious things such as Krabby Patties. She so far only appeared in the episode Banned in Bikini Bottom, where she banned Krabby Patties. After she tasted the Krabby Pattie she suddenly became a nicer and gentler fish. She is married to the chief of police who is Officer Hal Grisstelpuss.
  • Scooter (Carlos Alazraqui/Clancy Brown) - A lavender-colored fish who enjoys surfing. He allegedly died in the second-season episode "Bubble Buddy", except he also returned in future episodes. Scooter talks like a stereotypical surfer dude, but in future episodes he had different voices each episode he appeared in. He is mainly seen at Goo Lagoon.
  • Sister Sam (Star) Patrick's ghastly enormous slow-witted big sister.
  • King Neptune (Paul Tibbitt/John O'Hurley (series) and Jeffrey Tambor (movie))[11][16] - The king of the ocean, King Neptune is a massive magical green merman with red glowing hair, although he looks slightly different from one appearance to another. Neptune also appears as one of the movie's characters, although with a very different appearance, including a blindingly bald head; in the movie, he is also shown to have a daughter named Mindy. In SpongeBob and the Clash of Triton, it is shown that he has a son named Triton and is married to Queen Amphitrite. His name is also used frequently as a substitute for "God" in colloquial phrases (e.g. "Sweet mother of Neptune!" and "What in Neptune's name is that?").
  • Jack Kahuna Laguna (Johnny Depp) - A surfer who prefers to be called JKL, and helps SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward get home by teaching them how to surf.[17] He only appears in the special episode "SpongeBob vs. The Big One". His initials are obviously a parody of Matthew McConaughey's mantra of "Just Keep Livin'" from his role in Dazed and Confused.
  • Jim the Original Frycook (Patton Oswalt) - A rich fry cook who used to work at the Krusty Krab and later quit because Mr. Krabs didn't give him enough money. He now works at the finest restaurants of Bikini Bottom and visits the Krusty Krab sometimes. He is much wealthier than Mr. Krabs.
  • L.R.H. (David Bowie) The king of the lost city Atlantis. L.R.H seems to have somewhat of a extraterrestrial appearance. He only appeared in the special SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis .
  • Janet (Clea Lewis) and Marty (Thomas F. Wilson) - Patrick's fake parents, appearing in the episode "I'm With Stupid".
  • Nicolas Withers (Alton Brown) - The host of the House Fancy television show, in which Squidward and his rival Squilliam were competing against each other over whose house was better.
  • Triton (Sebastian Bach) - King Neptune and Queen Amphitrite's son. He is also the brother of Mindy even though Mindy wasn't shown in the episode "Clash of Triton". Triton was always fascinated by the "mortal" world. When King Neptune destroyed Triton's cure for all "mortal" diseases, Triton confronts King Neptune, forcing King Neptune to lock him away in a cell that shrinks 7% of the way. Triton's first appearance was on the episode "Clash of Triton".
  • Mindy (Scarlett Johansson) - King Neptune's and Queen Amphitrite's daughter (who has so far only appeared in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) who tends to be sweeter and kinder than her dad, and helped Spongebob and Patrick with their journey in the movie. Unlike her father King Neptune, brother Triton and mother Queen Amphitrite, Mindy has no magical powers. Patrick seems to have a crush on Mindy, often calling her pretty and hot. Interestingly, she does not appear alongside her family in "Clash of Triton". This absence is unexplained.
  • Queen Amphitrite (Victoria Beckham) - The wife of King Neptune, and the mother of Triton and Mindy. She tends to be very caring of her husband, even though it is not proven she shows a minor dislike for Mr.Krabs, after he called her a prankster on the phone pretending to be Amphitrite.
  • Blackjack Squarepants- (John DiMaggio) Spongebob's older and meaner cousin who used to bully Spongebob as a child. He was arrested for littering and then released. Spongebob had thought Blackjack was planning to murder his parents, and set out to find them by visiting members of his family. When Spongebob had reunited with Blackjack, it is shown that he had apparently not grown since he and SpongeBob last saw each other (when SpongeBob was a toddler), making him about as tall as SpongeBob's foot.
  • Herb & Margie Star - Patrick's real mother & father who appeared to visit their son for Starfish Day in the episode "I'm With Stupid", However, they haven't appeared in the series since then.
  • What Zit Tooya is the character who chased Squidward around Bikini Bottom because he stole his wallet. Squidward wanted to find his name to try to win a competition between him and Spongebob; the competition was to find out more of the Krusty Krab restaurant's customers' names.
  • Fred (or also known as My Leg Guy) - One of the fish, who has shouted things such as "My Leg!" in every episode, "My Eyes!" in the movie, and "Deuueaugh!" in "Something Smells". Also is an Internet phenomena.
  • Sea Bear (Dee Bradley Baker) - A sea creature that appears to look have a piranha body, claw tipped fins, and a grizzly bear head. It is stated that if one is playing a clarinet poorly, waving a flashlight, stomping on the ground, eating cubed cheese, wearing a sombrero in a goofy fashion (upside down), wearing a hoop skirt, wearing clown shoes, and/or screeching like a chimpanzee, an angry Sea Bear will be attracted. To protect ones' self from one, one must draw an Anti-Sea Bear Circle (it's the only way to ward off a sea bear attack). Squidward attracted one and got attacked by the sea bear.
  • Sea Rhino (Dee Bradley Baker) - A sea creature that has the body of a sea turtle and shark, huge spikes, and has a rhino head. According to SpongeBob and Patrick, a sea rhino will be atracted by the sound of a sea bear attack (possibly to pick some scraps of meat that the sea bear left like vultures). Anti-Sea Rhino Undergarments are the only way to protect yourself from one. While SpongeBob and Patrick were wearing their Anti-Sea Rhino Undergarments, Squidward sees one and realized he didn't weared one (cause Squidward never wears any pants, except a swim suit).
  • Patrick Not-Star - (Bill Fagerbakke) Patrick Not-Star is a starfish that looks like Patrick from behind who appeared in Hide and Then What Happens? when SpongeBob was looking for Patrick.
  • Smitty Werber Jengar Man Jensen- (Dee Bradley Baker) a person who owned a soda drinking hat and was #1.
  • Uncle Captain Blue - (Garnett Sailor) Uncle Captain Blue is Spongebob's uncle who served in the police force until he retired. He has so far only been seen in the episode "Blackjack".
  • Howard - (Unknown) someone who rent's Patrick's yard and was a friend of Squidward's.
  • Dennis - (Alec Baldwin (Mercenary) and Unknown (SpongeBob's classmate)) an assasin hired by Plankton to kill SpongeBob and Patrick in the movie. His last battle with the two was on David Hasselhoff and most likely died when about to squash SpongeBob, hit by a passing boat and fell to the bottom of the sea. There is also another more recurring character with the same name who was on of SpongeBob's former Elementary school classmates.
